WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) - Is the father involvement initiative of the National Center for Fathering that organizes fathers and father figures in order to provide positive male role models for the students and to enhance school security. Today, more than 2200 active programs in 41 states participate in the WATCH D.O.G.S. Program.
Who are WatchDOGS? Fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or other administrator/s.
Reeder has been participating in the WATCH D.O.G.S. program since 2012! There have been WatchDOGS on duty almost every day since! Here is some feedback that we received about the program:
·From a Reeder Staff Member to the Office: “She said she wasn't sure who was in charge of starting the Watch DOGS program, but she wanted to make sure it stayed at Reeder for YEARS! She said the dads have been so helpful and she can see that the kids are loving it. She said they would still be in the lunchroom cleaning up, but they're done early, thanks to the help from the dads.”
·From a WatchDOG: “I stopped to let Paige and the office staff know that this is one of the most rewarding experiences that I has ever had an opportunity to do as a father. I have volunteered a lot at school and coached many youth sports teams, but this was like nothing I've done. I interacted with countless kids and was able to meet and get to see numerous Reeder staff in action. We, as Reeder families are lucky to have such an enthusiastic and hard working group making a positive impact on our children. I would encourage any and all fathers and father figures to try a day as a WatchDOG. Come in with an open mind and a good night's rest because you never know what countless experiences the teachers will have you immersed in.
